Bolton's off-the-field problems don't seem to be going away anytime soon, with the club's new owners still not being appointed ahead of the upcoming league campaign.

It's far from ideal preparation for their first season back in League One, and Phil Parkinson is desperately short on numbers for their opening game of the season against Wycombe Wanderers.

But the game with Wycombe has been thrown into doubt, with the EFL releasing a statement on Monday, reporting that the Trotters have until 5pm on Monday to provide evidence that they can fulfil commitments.

If they can't do this, then their game against Gareth Ainsworth's men will be suspended, which is the worst possible start to their league campaign.

Bolton went into administration earlier in the summer which led to Phil Parkinson's side starting the season on -12 points, so it's going to be a tough ask to make an immediate return to the Championship.

It's safe to say that plenty of Bolton fans weren't pleased with this latest update.
