West Brom manager Slaven Bilic will have to accept the departure of one of his youngest talents, after 16-year-old wonder-kid Morgan Rogers agreed to move to Manchester City, in a deal believed to be worth in excess of £4m, as reported in The Telegraph.

Though the deal cannot be finalised until the youngster reaches his 17th birthday, he has already completed a medical at the Etihad and with the fee as reported, it will make the youngster one of the most expensive players for his age in the Premier League.

But should the Baggies have tried harder to hold onto their starlet?

We discuss........

Chris Gallagher

"I'm not sure they can do much to be honest.

"Firstly, it's difficult to match what the elite clubs can offer financially. Rogers is probably going to be picking up a wage that is equivalent to some first-team stars at Albion with the champions.

"How could they justify offering a kid that salary when he has played one game in his career?

"Then, from Rogers' perspective, he is getting the chance to move to one of the best youth teams in the country who have excellent facilities and top coaches.

"It's a no-brainer for him unfortunately and the rules mean that West Brom, and others in that situation, are vulnerable to this, which is the problem here. I have sympathy for the Baggies but they had been left in an awkward position."

Alfie Burns

“It’s obviously really frustrating for the Baggies and it is something that they must look to combat this happening again in the future, but I do doubt what more they could’ve done.

“Slowly, Manchester City are becoming a powerhouse in world football, and in the next 10-15 years, we could genuinely be talking about them in the same breath as Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“The opportunity to move to the Etihad is not one that many players will pass up, particularly one in Rogers’ shoes.

“Time will tell whether he’s a success, but to benefit from City’s coaching and train at the complex in Manchester is something the player will love. It’s a harsh truth for Albion, but I don’t think they could’ve done much.”

Louie Chandler

"Possibly but I do not think it will prove to big a loss.

"Rogers is clearly an exciting talent but at 16 he was not likely to break into the Baggies' first team in the near future and as much as the fans would have liked to have seen it in a few years, I think the board have made the right decision here.

"They are not in a particularly strong position financially so if a sizeable offer comes in for a youth product who is unlikely to be in a position to play anytime soon, it makes sense to accept it.

"I imagine it would not have been a particularly easy task to persuade him to hang around when Manchester City are interested as well, so it seems like the right move for all involved."
