Former Leeds player and Sky Sports commentator David Prutton has suggested that the Whites need to spend in January if they are to maintain their promotion push, as reported in the YEP.

Prutton has only said what many are thinking, that Leeds United will struggle to stay in contention for promotion to the Premier League if they do not add to their playing squad, that due to manager Marcelo Bielsa's philosophy, operating with a small streamlined squad.

So is Prutton right that Leeds must recruit?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

They do need to spend, but not heavily.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been suffering with a number of injuries this season and they could do with spending in January, to help aid their promotion bid.

He shouldn’t have to rely on the under 23’s to replace injured players in the first-team, and he will need to add depth to his side if they are to mount any sort of title challenge this season.

Gary Hutchinson

I'm not sure he's fully right.

It isn’t about spending, it is about making sure the squad has the cover it needs.

That doesn’t mean big fees, there’s loan players that can come in too.

Everyone will spend a bit, but there’s little need to be extravagant.

David Prutton has said what many are thinking regarding Leeds at present.

With January approaching and their lack of real depth in the side, Marcelo Bielsa should spend in the New Year.

Their promotion rivals will spend, and they will need to as well if they have any hope of maintaining their promotion push.
