Barnsley have parted company with manager Daniel Stendel, as confirmed in a statement on the club website, following a run of 10 league matches without a win., form that leaves the Tykes down in 23rd spot in the Championship.

The 45-year-old German took charge at Oakwell in June 2018 and led the Tykes to promotion from League One in his first season in English football, he is replaced in the short-term by Adam Murray who has been appointed caretaker manager.

So have Barnsley made the right decision sacking Stendel?

We discuss........

Chris Thorpe

"As I said about Jack Ross, this is another tricky one which can be reflected on from two viewpoints.

"I believe that they have made the right decision because his signings have so far failed to gel this season, which has led to a string of poor performances.

"Maybe he should have been given more time to work on developing what is one of the youngest squads in the league.

"However I feel Barnsley will benefit more long term with an experienced Championship manager, who has more know how at this level."

Dean Cooke

"Stendel has been a brilliant manager at Barnsley over the last season and he can see his departure as very harsh and I'm sure he won't be out of the game for long.

"I don't think it's the right decision and this adds to what the board have got wrong so far this season.

"They didn't allow the manager to bring the experienced players that he needed, and that has left him with players who had never played in the Championship before.

"It's the wrong decision, and in my eyes find themselves very likely to be back in League One next season."

Ben Lang

"I'm not sure about this one. Stendel has worked wonders since arriving at Oakwell at the start of last season and deserved more time.

"The German delivered a hugely exciting season at Barnsley last season which saw them promoted to the Championship while playing an attractive brand of football.

"There was not much he could do about the club's summer transfer business which saw so many players leave the club, but it now seems he has ultimately paid the price for this.

"I'm sure Barnsley fans will always hold Stendel in high regard, while it may now be difficult for his replacement to win over the fan base."
