Vaclav Hladky made the move to Ipswich Town last summer although since his arrival he has played as back-up to Christian Walton.
The 31-year-old has often got his game time in the EFL Trophy though and with the Tractorboys taking on Arsenal's U21s in the competition tonight, Hladky will be expecting some minutes.
With Ipswich hoping for promotion up to the Championship this season, it comes as no surprise that the second choice goalkeeper feels as though he is missing out as he told the East Anglian Daily Times: "We have a big squad and everybody wants to play, so it's a chance for everybody to get minutes [the EFL Trophy], get through the group stage and hopefully further.
"It's difficult, I'm not going to lie, but you have to accept your role and be ready for the opportunity that comes.
"It's a tough role because I want to be on the pitch as well, but I have to work hard and wait for my opportunity."
Despite the fact he would rather be on the pitch every week, Hladky is prepared to give his fellow goalkeepers plenty of competition as he said: "Our goalkeeper union has to be strong because when you wan to achieve some big goals you have to support each other.
"That's the main thing. I have big goals and want to be on the pitch so for me it's about pushing Christian as hard as possible every week."
The Verdict:
At 31-years-old, Hladky probably knows he is reaching the end of his career and therefore, you can't blame him for wanting maximum game time.
Furthermore, it's good that he is frustrated to be missing out as it shows fans that he is eager to have a part to play and to be going into the EFL Trophy game with a point to prove should mean he delivers on the pitch and helps his side progress.
What's more, the fact he is eager will only encourage his fellow goalkeeper Christian Walton to keep his performances high as he continues to show why he is deserving of a position in the side so whilst Hladky can't always have an impact directly on the pitch, he can make sure standards remain high in the side.
