Fulham are in talks with Aston Villa over a potential deal for Spanish playmaker Jota, according to a report by the Daily Mail, this despite the 28-year-old only making the move to Villa Park in the summer transfer window.

Fulham boss Scott Parker has Jota on his radar with the Spaniard down the pecking order at Villa Park, and it is reported that he could make a move away from the club just a matter of months after joining.

So would Jota be a good addition at Craven Cottage and is he actually needed?

We discuss............

Jacob Potter

"I’m not convinced that they actually need him.

"Fulham already have the likes of Cavaleiro and Knockaert available to them, and Jota wouldn’t be getting in the starting XI ahead of either of the Cottagers duo, so I think they’d be making the wrong decision in signing Jota this month.

"He’s proven himself to be an excellent player in the Championship in the past with Birmingham, but I don’t think Fulham would be the right club for him to sign for before the January transfer window closes.

"He scored three goals and provided nine assists in the 2018/19 season for the Blues, which came after he hit 12 goals in the 2016/17 campaign.

"So, there is no doubting that he would provide Fulham with another strong option to have in the second-half of this year’s campaign, but there will surely be questions raised as to whether he would be a regular starter for Scott Parker’s side."

Phil Spencer

“Jota is certainly a talented player.

“He showed it during his time with Brentford and in spells since then with Birmingham City.

“However I’m not entirely sure how much he’d add to Scott Parker’s side.

“The Cottagers are blessed with real attacking talent already and if Jota was to join the club I’m not totally sure where he would fit into things.

“Either he would be a fringe player, or he would force another of their attacking stars out of the side.

“Personally I can’t see it happening, but I’ve been wrong before!”

Kris Smith

“Fulham currently have a very strong attacking setup and are very potent going forward, so there is a question over whether they are already set going forward.

“However, it has to be said that Jota can play anywhere across the attacking midfield and out wide so he adds a lot of cover and versatility to the side.

“Tom Cairney’s output from midfield hasn’t been as good as expected this season so adding more goals to the midfield and relieving the pressure on Aleksandar Mitrovic could be vital.

“I’m not sure they need to bring in another attacking midfielder at Fulham but there is no doubting that Jota strengthens any side in the Championship and would warrant a starting spot under Scott Parker.”
