Sheffield United are preparing for their first season in the Premier League for 12 years and it appears manager Chris Wilder is pushing to add QPR playmaker Luke Freeman to his squad this summer.

According to the Sun, the Blades have submitted an offer of £4 million for the 27-year-old midfielder and hopes to have him on board within the next 48 hours.

Freeman was the R's brightest spark in a disappointing Championship campaign last season, scoring eight times and grabbing six assists as the London club struggled to a 19th-place finish.

United's promotion was their second in three years, meaning multiple members of Wilder's squad were playing in League One just two seasons ago and questions may be asked about whether his squad is up to the challenge.

It seems unlikely that Wilder will make any huge changes but he will surely be looking to inject some additional quality before their season opener against Bournemouth on 10th August.

Freeman has shown himself to be a talented player at Championship level but will the Englishman go straight into the Blades lineup and displace one of the players that helped them get to the Premier League?

Toby Wilding

"I'm not convinced he will.

"Wilder has previously spoken about wanting to approach the Premier League with the same philosophy that saw them promoted to the top flight, and you imagine that would include the starting XI, which carried out Wilder's tactics so well last year.

"A number of players that will be competing in the Premier League next season were part of the side that won promotion from League One just two years ago, and there may be a sense that they deserve their opportunity to play in the Premier League, given what they have contributed to getting the Blades to that level.

"Even so, Freeman is a hugely promising talent and would be a decent option for Sheffield United next season, so I would still expect him to be given some first-team chances if he makes the move to Bramall Lane."

Ben Lang

"Freeman is one of the best players in the Championship, and I think the Blades are signing him with the intention for him to start.

"Mark Duffy occupied the attacking midfield role in Wilder's side's final run-in, but I think Freeman would get in the side ahead of him next season.

"Freeman is a dynamic and exciting player to watch, and he would add a new dimension to United's style of play with his creative edge.

"His delivery is also lethal, and this is where the Blades could really benefit from him next season. They may be relying on set pieces to score their goals a lot of the time, and Freeman could make them a real threat in this area."

Tommy Joyce

"Luke Freeman has always stepped up to the plate wherever he has been before, so it will be interesting to see whether he can get into Sheffield United's first team.

"Sheffield United don't tend to play with wingers, but Wilder seems to have been looking for wide players all window as they probably need to have some more pace to hit teams on the counter with. "Either way, Freeman's versatility and quality means that they would find a way to fit him in that 5-3-2 system. "He has been one of the better Championship players in midfield, so I think if he did play, he would probably play on the left side of the three in the middle."
