Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has added to his squad, signing former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Erhun Oztumer on a free transfer, as confirmed on the Addicks club website.

The 28-year-old has left struggling Wanderers, leaving the Trotters with just five senior players ahead of their trip to Tranmere Rovers this weekend and has signed a two-year deal becoming Lee Bowyer's 13th signing since promotion to the Championship.

So will Oztumer be a good signing for Charlton?

We discuss........

Ned Holmes

“Yes, I think he deserves another chance in the Championship.

“He was underwhelming at Bolton, making 17 appearances without contributing a goal or an assist, but that he may have been impacted by the off the field situation at the club.

“Oztumer was magnificent for Walsall in League One, contributing 32 goals and 14 assists in two seasons, so clearly the talent is there.

“If Lee Bowyer can get him to that sort of form this could be an excellent addition for the Addicks.”

Josh Cole

“Although Oztumer is unquestionably an incredibly talented player, Charlton are taking a risk on him, given his escapades during the previous campaign for Bolton Wanderers.

“Despite arriving at the University of Bolton Stadium with a glowing reputation due to his performances for Walsall, the midfielder struggled to adapt to the physicality on show in the Championship.

“Having ended the year with no league goals to his name for the Trotters, despite making 17 appearances, the jury is still out on whether he is good enough to play in the second-tier.

“Bowyer has bolstered his midfield options in recent weeks by signing Sam Field and Josh Cullen, so there is no guarantee that Oztumer will be able to play on a regular basis for Charlton.”

Ben Lang

"I'm not convinced, Bowyer has already bolstered his midfield with loan signings.

"Sam Field, Josh Cullen and Beram Kayal all arrived on loan towards the end of the window, which means there is surely not much room in the squad for Oztumer.

"However, there can be no doubt that the former Bolton man will add a new dimension to Charlton's midfield, with his play-making abilities and long-range shooting.

"I think Oztumer will be a great addition on the whole, but I'm not convinced Charlton chiefs will be keen on paying for another midfielder."
