Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder continues to make his preparations for life in the Premier League, with a couple of new strikers a priority for the Blades, after loanees Scott Hogan and Gary Madine returned to their parent clubs, and Leon Clarke and Ched Evans were placed on the transfer list.

This activity has led Wilder to step up his interest in Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga, after first choice target Oli McBurnie looks to be heading to Brighton to join up with his former boss Graham Potter, as reported in the Northern Echo.

So would Assombalonga be a good signing for the Blades?

We discuss........

Jacob Potter

"I’m not convinced by this one.

"The Blades need more attacking firepower as they prepare for life in the Premier League, but I’m not sure he’s the answer.

"Oli McBurnie would be my first choice, and I just think Assomablonga is too hit or miss far too often for my liking."

Ben Lang

"It’s a good signing, but the Blades must make sure they pay an appropriate fee for him.

"Middlesbrough will be looking to profit from the sale of the striker given his strong reputation as a front man, but there are plenty of other strikers in the Championship, such as Oli McBurnie and Neal Maupay, who might be available at a more reasonable price.

"Assombalonga is a proven finisher, but I think the Blades would be taking a risk by making him the only striker they sign this summer."

George Brooks

"Assombalonga would be a great signing for Sheffield United.

"He has finished as Middlesbrough's top scorer in each of his two seasons at the club and is a proven goalscorer at Championship level.

"He could have what it takes to make the step up to the Premier League and a manager like Chris Wilder should be able to get the best out of him."

Gary Hutchinson

“Yes, very good.

“I know some don’t see his qualities in the same way, but I think he’s hugely underrated.

“He’s quick, willing to run and has a keen eye for goal.

“I think he’s been treated badly at Boro and will thrive in a side that plays him in the right area.”
