Wigan Athletic are weighing up a move for Nottingham Forest defender Danny Fox, as reported by Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The former Celtic man has been a revelation this season, having shifted into the centre of defence under Aitor Karanka.

His Forest career had seemed over, but the Spaniard revitalised him and has him playing some of the best football of his career.

With the recent change at the helm his future is now uncertain and as his contract expires at the end of the season, he could be forced to make a big decision.

If Wigan offer him stability and regular football, would he be wise to swap a promotion challenge for a relegation battle?

Or is the former Southampton and Burnley man best served sitting tight and waiting to see what pans out at the City Ground? Whatever he chooses it will be one of the last moves he makes in his long and varied career.

Would he do a job for Wigan at 32-years old? Our FLW team discuss.

Jacob Potter

"He's not an upgrade on what they already have.

"Fox was absolutely shocking at the weekend, and his discipline let him down, despite being captain.

"I agree that Wigan need depth in defensive areas, but he's not the sort of player they should be eyeing a deal for."

Louie Chandler

"I'm not convinced at all.

"Whilst Wigan could do with reinforcements Fox is somebody who is clearly on the decline in his career.

"He could do a job for the remainder of the season but I would like to see the Latics thinking a bit more long-term."

Alfie Burns

“Fox’s influence since moving to centre-back has been superb - he’s completely transformed his Forest career.

“For me, he’d be a great addition for Wigan and his signing would feel like a real coup for Paul Cook.

“It’ll be interesting to see if this materialises when the management situation at Forest is resolved.”
