Carlton Morris signed for Barnsley in January last year and has since gone on to become a popular player at the club.

So far this season he has made 20 appearances for The Tykes including 18 starts.

Unfortunately during last night's impressive 2-0 win against Bristol City, in which he scored the first goal, Morris was forced off in the 70th minute with an injury to his calf.

It's not yet known how serious the injury is but we asked FLW's Barnsley fan pundit Joe Beardsall how concerned he was about the injury to Morris: "I'm hugely concerned about Carlton Morris' injury.

"As soon as he went down I went from so excited at how we'd been playing and the performance against Bristol City to just being like 'please no Carlton I hope that you're just having a minute, had a little knock or I don't even know maybe just a bit of gamesmanship just wasting a few seconds' but then when he actually had to come off and be substituted I was starting to really panic because he is just so crucial to this Barnsley team.

"He's the one player this season that has carried us and continued to play well even when the rest of the team just look completely void of confidence. He is absolute quality with Quina and Bassi around him it's just such an attacking threat that Barnsley have got now.

"Without Carlton Morris, I don't want to exaggerate, but it will be the difference between us staying up and going down so wrap him in cotton wool. I'm sending cotton wool to his house right now so that he can get wrapped up in that cotton wool because we need him for these last nine games.

"This sounds like a very fan comment but it comes based on the performances I've seen from him since he joined Barnsley last year."

Morris has struggled with injuries in the past, he missed most of the 2018-19 season after suffering an ACL and only made appearances for Norwich's U23 squad. Joe believes the player is top quality if he can stay fit though: "I believe Carlton Morris if he can avoid getting injured, he is Premier League quality, there's no doubt about it that lad would play in the premier league if he can just avoid getting any nasty injuries because he has been unlucky with that then I think he will play in the premier league one day. Hopefully with Barnsley but you never know."

The Verdict:

An injury to Carlton Morris is the last thing Barnsley need right now especially as they are getting some good results and moving closer to safety.

Barnsley currently sit two points from safety and will be hoping they can jump over Reading soon and out of the danger zone.

However, Morris is one of the side's key players and has been a big part of the team this season especially looking at how many games he's played.

Barnsley head coach Poya Asbaghi confirmed bringing Morris off was somewhat precautionary and they're yet to know the severity of the injury. Barnsley fans will be hoping it was just a little knock and they will have their star player back and ready to fight relegation with them.
