Middlesbrough have shown real improvement in recent months, as they continue to pull themselves further clear of the Championship relegation zone.

Boro have recently completed the signing of Sheffield United midfielder Ravel Morrison on loan for the remainder of this year's campaign.

Football League World's Middlesbrough fan pundit Phil Wrightson has issued his thoughts on Morrison's arrival, and is hoping that Jonathan Woodgate can get the best out of the former West Ham man.

"I think I am like every Middlesbrough fan (and probably the fan of every team he has signed for in the past) in that I’m hopeful that we can harness the clear talent Morrison has and be the club that turns his career around.

"We have form for doing that, Christian Ziege and Gaston Ramirez to name two, and Woodgate has recently proven he can get the best out of his players."

Boro have recently been hit with an injury blow, with it being revealed that Patrick Roberts is set for a spell in the treatment room.

Morrison has struggled for game time with the Blades since he signed for Chris Wilder's side, but Wrightson is hoping that the 27-year-old can prove to be the right player to fill the void left by Roberts this season.

"We need a playmaker to replace Patrick Roberts who we were desperately disappointed to lose through injury as he looked to have the directness and skill we were desperate for, and if Morrison plays to his potential he can surely provide that.

"If he can show us what he all know he can do he will find a regular starting place but that’s a big if at the moment."

Middlesbrough are next in action on Saturday, when they travel to Griffin Park to take on high-flying Brentford in what is certain to be a tricky test for Jonathan Woodgate's side.
