Daniel Stendel joined Barnsley fans for a drink last night to say goodbye after he was sacked on Monday, which has caused an emotional response from many Tykes fans.

Stendel was sacked by the Tykes at the start of the week, with Barnsley 23rd in the Championship–having conceded the most goals in the division and scored the least.

The German coach took over last summer and achieved promotion from League One in his first season in charge–finishing second in the table behind Luton Town.

Barnsley sold a number of key players in the summer and having replaced them with young and mostly inexperienced players, have struggled to find consistency this season.

Stendel appears to have had a close connection with the Yorkshire club’s fans and said goodbye to them last night by joining some of the Oakwell faithful for a drink at the pub.

Images and footage of the event have emerged on Twitter, with one video even showing the 45-year-old taking shots with Barnsley fans.

The gesture has been well received by Reds supporters, many of whom took to Twitter to heap praise on their former manager and send emotional goodbye messages.
