Watford will be hoping to mount an immediate promotion push following their relegation from the Premier League.
The Hornets, who are now under the stewardship of Rob Edwards, have taken a different approach to the norm when it comes to appointing a first-team manager.
The 39-year-old won promotion with Forest Green Rovers last season, playing an exciting brand of attacking football.
His ideas and intellect will now be challenged in the Championship, a decision that former Watford loanee Carlton Palmer is glad to see.
Speaking to FLW about the appointment of the young manager, Palmer said: "To be honest with you, I'm delighted with the appointment.
"You've got to give these managers an opportunity. You know, you look at Frank Lampard, people are saying he was out of his depth at Everton, but how is he gonna learn. The chairman stuck with him, and Everton stayed up. And, that's a big plus now, for him to go forward next season.
"I'm fed up of seeing the same old managers just doing the merry-go-round doing the circle.
"It's great to see young players, young ex-footballers, getting the opportunity to make that step up.
"And with that, you've got to have a bit of patience. You know, the chairman's got to have a bit of patience, a bit of belief, a bit of faith that they can do the job."
The verdict
It is a change for Watford, but it is a change that has the potential to be an excellent step in the right direction for the football club.
As Palmer quite rightly points out, Edwards needs to be afforded time at the helm at Vicarage Road, as he is a progressive manager who has landed an excellent opportunity up the pyramid.
It will be interesting to see how he recruits this summer, as he will possess excellent knowledge of the lower leagues, whilst his budget is likely to suggest that he can widen the scope to the higher divisions and across Europe.
More youthful and progressive managers have thrived in the Championship in recent seasons, with Carlos Corberan, Steve Cooper and Neil Critchley standing out, with Russell Martin seemingly on the edge of joining the aforementioned trio.
