Aston Villa are weighing up a swoop for former Arsenal and Man City full-back Bacary Sagna, who is a free-agent in the summer, according to FootballFancast.

Would this be a good signing for the Villans?

I am not sure this would be a sensible move as Sagna is not getting any younger, unless he is brought in with a view to playing less and perhaps coaching a bit more.

The positive with this idea is that he could replace Alan Hutton and help to bring James Bree through into the first team.

Sagna and Bree could rotate for one season with the former Arsenal and Man City man acting as the youngster's mentor before Bree is ready to regularly feature in the first team.

I’m completely torn on this.

Sagna has plenty of quality, and at 35, he would add a lot of experience to Villa’s dressing room.

However, Villa have a number of players over the age of 30 in their squad, and the average age of that squad needs to be brought down in the summer.

I’m not sure Sagna is what Villa need.

Chris Gallagher

If they are in the Championship.

Sagna's days as a Premier League player are over after what was an outstanding career.

If Villa get promoted then they should be aiming for better, if they stay down he would be a decent signing though.

George Dagless

Villa should look elsewhere.

Regardless of where they are next season they do need to add to strengthen their squad.

Is Sagna exactly what they need though? I'm not sure. I think they could do with more options at both full-back positions but they should be able to get better options in.
