Leeds United are one of a handful of clubs plotting a move for Oldham Athletic centre-back Tom Hamer, according to Football Insider.
The 18-year-old made a number of impressive appearances for the first-team last season, and it has seemed to have caught the attention of the Yorkshire club.
Would Hamer be a good addition for the Whites?
Tom Hamer only signed his first professional contract with Oldham this past April.
He played nine times for the club last season and scored one goal.
The defender is only 18-years-old so there is plenty to work with in terms of his potential and also his personal and professional development.
Under Marco Bielsa, he could learn a lot to help him progress playing in a more continental system, which is fast becoming a regular occurrence within the Championship.
At such a young age, Hamer is already impressing in the first-team at Oldham.
This bodes well as one for the future for Leeds and he could be a shrewd long-term purchase. He might even have a role to play as soon as next season, given Leeds’ lack of options at centre-half.
But Leeds fans will be hoping for some senior signings soon because it has been a frustrating window.
He’d be a decent signing.
Leeds have signed a lot of talented youngsters in the past few windows and Hamer would continue that trend.
Fans will understandably want the club to focus on proven players ready to make an impact on the first-team but the Oldham man could be a good player in the years to come.
This could well be another signing for the under-23s, but it’s a positive move.
Hamer has done well when he’s been handed a chance at Oldham, and moving to Elland Road could really help his development.
Leeds have done well with these types of deals in the last 12 months, so I’m backing the board here.
It looks like a wise investment rather than a signing to immediately improve the squad.
I feel like Leeds need somebody who can come in straight away and boss the defence.
But he would be a great signing for the future if they could get him.
