The agent of Leeds' on-loan goalkeeper Illan Meslier, Yvon Poliquen, has revealed that the Frenchman is being regularly monitored while training from home amid football's suspension, and says he is coping well with football's suspension.

With players currently being forced to train at home, there may have been some concerns about whether they are able to maintain their fitness to the same sort of standard as they would do were they training at their clubs on a daily basis, although it seems Meslier at least is managing to keep himself well prepared for a return to action.

Speaking about the goalkeeper's training regime in the current circumstances during an interview with a print edition of French newspaper Ouest-France, Poliquen said: “Illan is also confined, he remained in England. But don’t worry, we sent him a bike to train, weight training equipment etc.

"He is followed daily by the goalkeeping coach, who does not let him go."

Following the suspension of football, Leeds moved quickly to confirm that their first-team squad had taken a pay cut in order to ensure the club's non-playing staff could continue to be paid, and Poliquen has revealed that Meslier has been a part of that, adding: “The period is not about talking about money, but I can say that Illan accepted a cut in wages in relation to the current situation."

Since joining Leeds from Lorient on loan in the summer transfer window, Meslier had made three appearances in all competitions for Marcelo Bielsa's side, which includes keeping clean sheets in wins over Hull and Huddersfield in the last two games before the postponement of the season, when filling in for the suspended Kiko Casilla.

It has previously been reported that Leeds will make Meslier's loan move permanent for a fee of around £5million during the summer transfer window, should they win promotion to the Premier League this season.

The Verdict

This will surely be an encouraging sight for those of a Leeds persuasion.

With Casilla still set to be suspended for several games once the season resumes, Leeds will still be relying on Meslier to play a big part in their push for promotion to the Premier League in those nine remaining games of the season.

As a result, they will not want him to lose fitness while out of action, and this update does suggest that the goalkeeper is taking plenty of steps to ensure that that does not happen.

At just 20-years-old, that, and his willingness to take that pay cut, shows a good deal of maturity from Meslier, something which can only serve him well going forward in his career.
