Illan Meslier has indicated that he wants to stay at Leeds United beyond his loan spell, with the goalkeeper re-tweeting an article discussing the club’s desire to sign him up.

Leeds took Meslier on a season-long loan from Lorient back in the summer and despite Meslier managing only three senior appearances, he’s done more than enough to convince the Whites that he’d be a shrewd long-term addition.

A report in the Telegraph has confirmed that Leeds are keen to wrap up a £5m deal for Meslier, with the goalkeeper’s home country also running a similar story.

From that, Meslier re-tweeted it onto his personal Twitter page, indicating that he’d be just as keen as Leeds to finalise a deal.

The 20-year-old debuted in Leeds’ FA Cup defeat to Arsenal back in January and following Kiko Casilla’s suspension, has stepped up into the first-team at Championship level.

In his two Championship appearances, Meslier kept back-to-back clean sheets, holding a steady ship against both Hull City and Huddersfield Town.

Those two wins, combined with West Brom dropping points, steered Leeds top of the Championship table.

The Verdict

Meslier has been loving life at Leeds this season, you can just tell.

Now he’s in the side, he doesn’t look like giving up the gloves without a fight, so if Leeds can reward him with regular games, he’s sure to be happy to commit to them long-term.

If this transfer is eventually completed, £5m looks a bargain.
