The Derby County first team squad will be adapting to life under new manager Phillip Cocu, as the 48-year-old Dutchman takes over the reigns of pre-season, following Frank Lampard's departure to take charge at Stamford Bridge.

For all the first team squad there will be a degree of uncertainty, as to whether they will feature in the new manager's plans and for striker Chris Martin this concern will be magnified, after a season that saw him score only two goals in 30 appearances.

So do you think Martin will be involved much at the Rams next season?

We discuss........

Tommy Joyce

"I don't see Martin being part of the first team fold next year, and thus think he might be moving on from the club.

"He has struggled for Championship goals in recent seasons, so his stock has fallen.

"Lampard favoured Waghorn, Marriott and Bennett last season, and I can't see Martin pipping one of them to the first team squad considering Martin is now 30.

"He is a still a really competent player at this level and has played over 300 games, so I don't doubt that teams will be sniffing around for the player, but I can't see him being part of the first team this season.

"That being said, he might be used depending on the system Cocu prefers. He is probably the fourth best striker at the club this season and that experience might come in handy if a couple of injuries come in and they need a cool head or someone who can slot a penalty."

Ned Holmes

"It might be difficult for Martin to lock down a regular starting spot but I do see him being involved under Cocu next season.

"Derby are without last season’s top scorer, with Harry Wilson returning to Liverpool on loan, and there is a chance for someone to stake their claim and fill that spot.

"Cocu seems likely to use the 433 system that helped him win three Dutch league titles in five years at PSV, which utilises wingers and means there will probably be only one space for an striker.

"With Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott both at the club it may be difficult for Martin to take the starting spot, however, with his physicality he does offer something different to the other forward options and should provide a useful option."

Louie Chandler

"I'll be amazed if plays any part under Cocu.

"The end of the 2018/19 campaign saw a host of important players leave the club at the end of their loans but neither affected the striking unit.

"Both Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott remain at the club and will almost certainly be the Dutchman's first-choice options, leaving Martin's future very much up in the air.

"At most, I think he could have a similar role to play as David Nugent did last season but even that is a long shot and would expect him to start pushing for a move away again if he is not doing so already."
