Leeds United’s slump in recent weeks has led to Thomas Christiansen’s playing squad receiving plenty of criticism for the club’s supporters, with the Elland Road faithful becoming increasingly frustrated with the Whites’ failure to address glaring issues.

One player who has continued to shine despite the club’s torrid run of form is Samuel Saiz, the Spanish playmaker who arrived at Elland Road for a reported £3m over the summer transfer window.

Saiz has looked a cut above the rest at Elland Road this season, and even in a difficult spell, the 26-year-old has continued to receive plaudits, with the playmaker on occasion looking like the only member of Christiansen’s side capable of creating anything in attack.

The 26-year-old’s stats read excellently, with Saiz scoring eight goals across all competitions, adding three assists to that total. There aren’t many better players to have played for the club since their relegation from the Premier League in 2004, and it is a certainty that Saiz will one day be destined for the top-flight, with or without Leeds.

That step into the Premier League could come soon if Leeds do not buck their ideas up in the Championship, as the least Saiz will be expecting is a push for promotion this season. Of course, Leeds are still well placed in 10th to rediscover their early season form and push on, but currently it looks unlikely and Saiz is looking frustrated as he looks to help Leeds back into contention.

Saiz has a lengthy contract at Elland Road, and the club would feel under no pressure to sell the 26-year-old if the Premier League came knocking. However, the player’s desire to stay in West Yorkshire and fight for promotion could soon be gone, as he appears to be fighting an individual battle to keep Leeds in promotion contention.
