This January looks set to be the busiest and most important transfer window in many years as the race for promotion and survival hots up in the second tier.

West Bromwich Albion will be one of those sides busying themselves, wheeling and dealing, as they look to make an immediate return to Premier League after their relegation last season.

Darren Moore's side currently sit fourth in the table on 46 points, three behind second-placed Norwich City and five behind league-leaders Leeds United

But the best January outcome for the Baggies at the moment would be keeping hold of Leicester City loanee Harvey Barnes, with the Foxes tempted to recall him after a brilliant six months in the West Midlands.

Having scored nine and assisted seven it is no real surprise that this is the case, so if he were to leave, where should Moore turn?

Here are THREE playmakers they should target if the worst were to happen...

Nick Powell

The 24-year-old's future at Wigan has been in doubt for a while now and would prove a very smart replacement for Barnes.

He is not exactly a like-for-like replacement, perhaps lacking the Leicester loanee's pace, but with four goals and five assists in 18 games for the struggling Latics, he can certainly bring results.

Jarrod Bowen

This is probably the most like-for-like signing Moore could make and what a signing it would be.

Bowen is on red-hot form for Hull City and, although it would cost a fair amount, would be the perfect replacement for Barnes.

11 goals and three assists show how useful he would be.

Luke Freeman

Despite not hitting the heights perhaps expected of him, Freeman has continued to show his quality in the second-tier for QPR this season, scoring six and assisting three.

He signed a contract extension at Loftus Road in November but given the Rs financial situation, a big offer could easily tempt them.
