If the worse happens to Pontus Jansson after 20 mins v Sheff Utd – This is what Hecky must do

Leeds United’s discipline is one thing that Paul Heckingbottom is going to have to address in the coming weeks, with a mixture of suspensions and injuries building up at Elland Road.

Of course, injuries are hard to prevent, but Leeds’ red card count has been working against them all season – particularly recently, with four dismissals in their last five fixtures across all competitions.

Here at FLW, we have created a scenario in Saturday’s game against Sheffield United, highlighting what we believe Heckingbottom needs to do if Pontus Jansson is dismissed.

Heckingbottom has a shortage of central defenders available to him, and we believe he could take a look at what Christiansen did last weekend against Cardiff City, when he found himself short of numbers in defence.

Leeds played their best football against Cardiff with Matthew Pennington at the heart of a back-three, with Adam Forshaw to his right and Laurens De Bock to his left.

If Jansson is dismissed and Leeds have to shift to a three-man defence, Kalvin Phillips will have to look after the central midfield on his own, whilst Vurnon Anita and Stuart Dallas flank him in a wing-back role.

So Leeds don’t isolate Pierre-Michel Lasogga in attack, Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski are pushed further forward, with the duo tasked with tracking back to make Heckingbottom’s side more compact without the ball.
