QPR boss Steve McClaren will be hoping to improve on a mediocre season under Ian Holloway.

QPR finished last season comfortably away from the relegation zone in 16th place, but they rarely threatened to finish in the top half.

Therefore, the season had little excitement about it even though they needed to ensure they stayed in the division due to the Financial Fair Play sanctions.

McClaren was brought in with the intention of developing the talented prospects they have through his coaching, with the plan to either make them first-teamers or sell them on for a high price.

However, the transfer business this summer will be important in making his mark on the team as limited as that will be.

Here are three pieces of business he should aim to achieve...

The defence needs improving after Nedum Onuoha left as a free agent, so Adarabioyo would be an ideal loanee to bring in. He may be inexperienced, but there is no doubting his talent and he would fit in well with the young core of players they have.

Adarabioyo is yet to be sent out on loan, but did make four first-team appearances last season with two of those being in the Champions League. He is highly unlikely to break into the first-team anytime soon, so a loan spell is his best option. It would also be useful for him aside from the obvious playing time advantages because he would get to develop under McClaren who is an excellent coach.

Luongo was heavily linked with a move to Aston Villa near the end of the regular season, but their severe financial issues due to failing to achieve promotion have become apparent since then. Therefore, the move is unlikely to happen.

He will probably attract more interest especially if he plays well at the World Cup, but McClaren needs to prioritise keeping him. Having him for another season would be a huge boost because he is a key player for them in central areas with his ball-winning ability and attacking drive. Luongo staying would certainly help ease the transition between managers.

Baptiste has a year left on his contract after signing a two-year deal last summer, but the club have little need for him now and McClaren should look to sell him if possible. Darnell Furlong and Osman Kakay are options for the right-back role with Furlong ready to be a starter, so Baptiste isn't needed.

They also have experience cover for the role in James Perch if both are struggling during the season or McClaren wants to adopt a more defensive approach in-game. Therefore, Baptiste's usefulness has come to an end and keeping him would only stifle the development of other players.
