Failure to win promotion in the play-off final last month has had a disastrous impact on the club, with HMRC chasing them for an unpaid bill and FFP restrictions set to hinder them too.

Therefore, Steve Bruce will have a huge task on his hands to have Villa competing at the top of the table again next season.

There will be very little money for new signings with youngsters surely to get promoted from the academy to beef up the squad.

As well as that, players are obviously going to go and here we look at a few deals that fans will hope to go through...

The talented Wednesday youngster is out of contract this summer and whilst he would still command a compensation fee it would be affordable.

Clare displayed his class against Villa last season and would bring energy, class and pace to the midfield, which will be much-needed.

The youngster joined from Manchester United on loan in January but struggled with fitness issues and didn't get a run of games.

However, things would change now with John Terry having left and James Chester likely to follow. Tuanzebe would then get game time and could be a great addition for the Championship side.

Villa's financial situation means that they will be desperate to shift the high earners and fans will be over the moon if Richard departs.

The former Manchester City man hasn't delivered in a Villa shirt and can't get near the team. It's vital they find some way to shift him off the wage bill given their troubles.

Similarly, Scotland international McCormack is another high earner who isn't needed at the club.

Obviously, the player isn't to blame as he was given a great contract by Villa but they really need to get rid of him this summer and will have to take a massive hit on the £12m they paid.
