Southampton are struggling down at the bottom of the league in the top flight this year and are in dire need of some form to escape the drop.

The men from the south coast have had a campaign that has lacked any real direction or attacking threat and that duly cost Mauricio Pellegrino his job at the weekend after their loss to Newcastle.

The Saints need to buck their ideas up fast now, then, but if they do go down we've identified an early transfer target for them in the Championship - Tom Trybull:

Trybull is a good all round midfielder.

He can contribute to attacking phases with his passing and great use of the ball whilst he is very good at breaking up play from a deep lying role.

He doesn't score many goals but he is more mobile than many midfielders who form the covering line in front of a defence and that tenacity would surely give the Saints a rocket.

They have sleep walked into danger this season despite possessing a decent squad and that means, on dropping, certain players will surely attract attention.

Both Mario Lemina and Oriol Romeu could exit the club in the summer if they go down and, if that happens, they'll need some class midfield options to come in.

Norwich will want to keep him undoubtedly, once he returns from injury, but Southampton should look to use their extra financial resources to try and prise him away.
