Sky Bet Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers were on the search for a new manager after the end of last season, as Scottish boss Paul Lambert triggered a release clause in his contract at Ewood Park.

The owners of the Lancashire club appointed former Wigan Athletic, Bolton Wanderers and Burnley manager Owen Coyle in June to be in charge of the dugout at Blackburn - looking to improve on the team's 15th position finish in the 2015/16 campaign.

Coyle brought in a number of players over the summer to build on the very lacklustre squad.

Strikers Danny Graham and Anthony Stokes were two of many arrivals and the 50-year-old had high hopes for this season.

However, he has struggled to live up to expectations, which hasn't helped with the ongoing pressure from fans on the owners, and the club sit just one spot outside the Championship relegation zone by a single point.

Here are THREE perfect replacements for Owen Coyle, if he were to be sacked....

Nigel Adkins

Adkins has been out of a job since being sacked as manager of League One side Sheffield United just after the end of last season, and is probably one of my favourites to take over from Owen Coyle.

The 51 year-old earned his name in the dugout after earning back-to-back promotions with Southampton, taking the Saints from the third-tier to the Premier League and in doing so became the first boss at the south-coast club to complete that feat.

Nigel Adkins also had a spell at Reading in the 2013/14 campaign, being appointed to keep the Royals in the top-flight but failure to do so made him lose his job at the Madejski Stadium.

Whilst the former Wigan Athletic goalkeeper was unable to get Sheffield United out of League One, he definitely knows what it takes to climb the table in the second-tier.

Similar to Neil Warnock and his impact at Cardiff City, I think Nigel Adkins would re-create hope and a buzz amongst supporters to hopefully climb them up the league table.

Tony Mowbray

The former Middlesbrough boss is without a club at the moment having departed Coventry City of League One a few weeks ago, after the Sky Blues were sitting bottom of the table.

Mowbray is most remembered for his time in the north-east at Riverside, being appointed to get 'Boro back into the Premier League - although when he took over the team were 22nd in the Championship in 2010.

Despite bringing in a number of recognisable faces and giving youth a chance, he was sacked as Middlesbrough manager in 2013 with just two wins from twelve.

Although I feel Tony Mowbray's reputation may have been hampered after his disappointing 18-month spell at the Ricoh Arena, it is still a gamble I think Blackburn Rovers should take.

The 52-year-old has a past of giving young, hungry players at clubs the chance to get game time and impress.

This is perhaps something supporters at Ewood Park need to see more often and for that reason Mowbray is a suitable candidate to replace Owen Coyle.

Kenny Jackett

Kenny Jackett is currently one of the favourites to take over at Rotherham United, who parted company with Alan Stubbs after the club were sitting bottom of the Sky Bet Championship, but would also do a job at Blackburn Rovers.

The ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers and Millwall boss may not be the person to guide a side up the table and have a sudden impact, but he knows his way around this league and can comfortably bring safety and reassurance amongst the club.

The 54 year-old would be a good replacement for Blackburn if the owners are looking at a short-term solution, perhaps until the end of this season and go on from there, he would be able to get the best of all those in the squad not performing to their best.
