Rafa Benitez has a pool of talented players at his disposal for Newcastle United, with many of them playing at a high level in a bid to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Following relegation last season, the Magpies managed to keep some of their star men, including Jonjo Shelvey and Yoan Gouffran, as they make a bid for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.

Newcastle also managed to add players to their squad during the summer, without breaking the bank.

The sale of Andros Townsend, Moussa Sissoko and Georginio Wijnaldum, helped to fund the additions of Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and many others.

Benitez’s side look set for promotion, currently sitting top of the Championship, with just under three-months of the season left to play.

The Magpies hold a point advantage over Brighton and Hove Albion, whilst they have a five-point cushion to third placed Huddersfield Town.

With so many talented players at the club, we look at a potential Newcastle 5-a-side team.

Who would make your Newcastle 5-a-side team? Let us know in the comments below!

Goalkeeper: Karl Darlow

Every team needs a goalkeeper, and Darlow has been consistent for Newcastle this season.

Darlow has made 25 appearances across all competitions this season and has established himself as Benitez’s number one.

Despite a recent error in a 2-2 draw with Norwich City, Darlow has impressed this campaign, and earns a place in this Newcastle 5-a-side team.

Defence: Ciaran Clark

Clark joined the Magpies from Aston Villa during the summer transfer window.

The Republic of Ireland international has featured 29 times for Newcastle this season, and has formed an impressive partnership alongside captain Jamaal Lascelles.

Clark gets into this team just ahead of his captain, and will offer a solid defence behind an attacking line-up.

Midfield: Jonjo Shelvey

Shelvey is Benitez’s main man, and has helped the Magpies to the brink of a Premier League return this season.

The midfielder has four goals in 28 appearances this season, and is arguably the club’s most influential player, adding a further seven assists to his goal tally.

The 24-year old is a shoe-in for a 5-a-side team, playing in a deep midfield role.

Attacking Midfield: Matt Ritchie

Ritchie was a big money signing during the summer, arriving from Bournemouth to give Benitez’s side some much needed Championship experience.

The Scottish international can play on either side of midfield and has been a massive hit since his arrival at St James’ Park.

The attacking midfielder has bagged 12-goals this season, adding a further six assists.

Ritchie’s ability to score and create sees him in this team ahead of Mo Diame and Yoan Gouffran.

Striker: Dwight Gayle

Gayle is Newcastle’s top goal scorer this season, finding the net 20 times over the course of the campaign.

The striker is struggling with injury having missed the past month with a hamstring injury he picked up against Brentford.

On his return to first-team action, Gayle suffered more issues with his hamstring, and was replaced after 33 minutes in the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa.

When fit, Gayle has electric pace, which has caused Championship defenders problems, and would be a big advantage in 5-a-side.
