Sheffield Wednesday have had a very tough season with the focus of everyone at the club on building a side that can challenge again in the summer.

A poor first half to the campaign saw Jos Luhukay replace Carlos Carvalhal but things haven't got any better under the former Gladbach boss.

However, he will be eager to put his own stamp on the team and will hope to oversee major changes at Hillsborough in the coming months.

Financial Fair Play may dictate that a few players have to depart the Yorkshire club that the manager might not want but the board have shown over the years that they are willing to back their managers.

Here we look at three things that would delight Owls fans if Luhukay could pull them off in the summer...

Rhodes has been an expensive mistake from Wednesday after joining for around £10m from Middlesbrough in 2017.

Only seven league goals have followed in nearly 50 Championship games, with the ex-Huddersfield man picking up a massive salary in the process.

Wednesday will be desperate to get rid of the striker in the summer and if Luhukay sanctions a sale and Rhodes departs it would go down very well in the blue and white half of Sheffield.

A priority for the Owls has to be extending the contract of Sean Clare.

One of few positives under Luhukay has been the inclusion of the younger players and Clare looks the best of the lot.

He has great pace, energy and drive from midfield and looks like he could be a very good player.

However, he is out of contract in the summer and Tottenham and Everton are said to be interested. Luhukay will need to do all he can to convince the youngster his future lies at Hillsborough.

Similarly, another talented played coming through the ranks is George Hirst, although the fallout between the player, his reperesentatives and the board could mean this is unlikely.

Yet, the Owls are struggling up top depsite the number of options they have and it doesn't seem right that a quality England youth international is going to leave in the summer.

Given what's gone on some fans will be glad to see the back of Hirst but there's no doubt in the long-term it would be massive news if Luhukay could somehow convince him to sign a new deal.
