Leeds would be play-off contenders if they had £30 million to spend on these players.

It's been a disappointing season for Leeds fans with their current position of 12th being the highest they can finish.

They were aiming for a play-off punish at the start of the season, but that gradually fell apart as the season went on.

Paul Heckingbottom was brought in to rejuvenate the club, but he has struggled to get rid of the inconsistency that was a major part of his predecessor Thomas Christiansen's reign.

The transfer strategy of acquiring bargains from abroad has failed because these players have struggled to step up when needed, so they need to chase after specific players with proven quality to upgrade this team.

Here are four players that fit the bill...

Bartley played for Leeds last season on loan from Swansea. He was excellent alongside Pontus Jansson as Leeds became one of the toughest sides to break down in the division under the watchful eye of Garry Monk.

He isn't first choice for the Swans so he rarely plays with 12 appearances in all competitions. Therefore, it would be a good move for both parties if he came back to Elland Road. Swansea are unlikely to ask for a high fee due to his limited role in the team, which means he is unlikely to cost more than a few million.

Millwall have surprised everyone this season with a fantastic run which has got them to the verge of the play-offs with two games remaining. This has been built on a solid defence which has only conceded 43 goals in the league, the joint-fifth lowest in the division.

Jake Cooper has been a key element in that alongside Shaun Hutchinson in the heart of the defence. At 23-years-old, he is one of the best defenders in the division for his age. He could be utilised as a key part of Leeds' defence especially if Pontus Jansson decides to leave. Although his value is likely to have increased significantly over the past few seasons, so he is probably worth a few million at least.

Murphy would be the ideal player for Leeds to bring in because he would provide a credible wide threat with his dribbling ability being useful in breaking down a packed defence. He could be used in a variety of playing styles due to his versatility, which gives Heckingbottom plenty of freedom on how to set-up his team.

His importance at Norwich has increased over the past few seasons with him and James Maddison being the key elements in their attack this season under Daniel Farke. He still has quite a few areas that he needs to work on such as his finishing, but he would be a great long-term prospect to bring in for an area that they are lacking in. They would need a significant fee between £5-10 million to get the Canaries to sell him, though.

Reid is coming to the end of his contract with Bristol City, although the club do have an optional extra year which they can activate. It would be a tough task to persuade him to move to Leeds because of the fact that they are lower in the table and he is likely to attract Premier League suitors due to his goal tally.

However, he would be the ideal player to bring in order to improve their front line which has struggled for goals this season. He has 19 goals in the league, which is the joint-second highest behind Matej Vydra, as well as seven assists. Therefore, trying to lure him in if they had £30 million would be a smart way to improve the team.
