It has been an extremely indifferent first season in the Sky Bet Championship for former Premier League stalwarts, Aston Villa.

The Birmingham based side ended a 28 year stint in the top flight last year, having been ever present in the reformatted Premier League which began in 1992.

Bolstered by years of Premier League finances and infamous parachute payments, Villa spent big over the summer and in January on a host of names, but it now looks likely that one of these big names could depart Villa Park this summer.

Striker Jonathan Kodjia has in recent days been linked with Turkish giants, Fenerbahce, and this opportunity to a club littered with so many household names is sure to turn the Ivorian’s head.

Robin Van Persie, Moussa Sow, Martin Skrtel and Gregory van der Wiel are just a few of the names currently on the books at the Turkish club, and Kodija would find himself amongst illustrious talent.

The forward, who is recovering from a broken ankle, has been Villa’s top performer this season after smashing 19 goals, and his productivity will need to be replaced.

Villa will demand a sizeable fee for Kodjia’s services, and fans will hope this money will be available to reinvest in the squad.

On the books at Villa Park already is former Brentford striker Scott Hogan, a mega money January signing, who will undoubtedly find his feet in Birmingham next season.

The Birmingham Mail reported Villa’s summer transfer budget to be a measly £1 million this summer, and the funds available from Kodjia’s potential sale must be utilised to improve the whole squad.

With that in mind, Steve Bruce must do whatever it takes to bring Chelsea youngster Tammy Abraham back to the Championship.

The 19-year-old will be high demand this summer, but his parent club may wish to deploy the wonderkid in the Championship once more to ensure his development is not stifled on the bench of a fellow top flight club.

Abraham would forge a deadly partnership with Hogan if the two were paired, and Villa seems a possible destination for the striker, given their reputation in developing young, English talent.

Losing Kodjia would be a blow to Aston Villa, but with the £20 million plus fee the club will surely demand, Bruce will have the funds to put together a side capable of a promotion push.

Abraham would be the perfect man to spearhead this, and Bruce should look to move the Earth to secure the loan signing of the prolific young forward.
