Chris Hughton faces a big Nottingham Forest player dilemma ahead of the Reds' trip to Oakwell to face Barnsley this Saturday.

The left-back position is one that is certainly up for debate this weekend, with Nicolas Ioannou returning from suspension, subsequently prompting the question as to whether Yuri Ribeiro should be ousted, after starting and impressing in the last few games for Chris Hughton's side.

Gaetan Bong is also another player that has featured in that role this season and is in contention to feature in Yorkshire on Saturday.

So, what should Hughton do here? Bring Ioannou back into the fold? Stick with Ribeiro? Or hand Bong a start?

Ribeiro should keep his place in the side despite Ioannou being back available.

For me, Ribeiro is Forest's most underrated player. He endured a solid first season on Trentside and produced a string of impressive performances last season, and he never deserved to be frozen out by the club before Hughton came in.

Since coming into the side against Coventry City, Ribeiro is yet to put a foot wrong. He hasn't had a lot of influence in attack, but defensively, he has been a key part of a solid backline which is all you can really ask for from a left-back. We also know that Ribeiro can be a real threat going forward, so he's bound to contribute between now and the end of the season in that respect.

I do rate Ioannou a lot, and he has a very impressive cross on him which makes him a dangerous player going forward, but I think Ribeiro is a better player all-round.

If it isn't broken, then why fix it?

Personally, I’d go with Ribeiro.

He’s a player that really impressed me under Sabri Lamouchi. He developed over the course of the season and established himself, in my mind, as one of the Championship’s top left-backs.

Hughton has played him in back-to-back wins against Coventry and Wycombe, so I can’t see the benefit of making a change now. The shirt should be his going forward.

Consistency in terms of selection is going to be important for Forest moving into December and Hughton would be making a mistake dropping his left-back.

It’s always good to have options, but the best option is currently in the side.

I'd probably be inclined to go with Ioannou.

He has been the most regular for Forest out of three, and having featured for Cyprus over the international break, should still be ready to again on Saturday.

Forest do seem to have been generally solid when Ioannou has been available to them as well, while his willingness and ability to move forward on the pitch offers them another dimension in attack as well.

As a result, it does seem as though bringing Ioannou back into the side could benefit Forest here, especially given they are still under plenty of pressure at the wrong end of the table, and will want to move away from that as soon as possible.
