League One side Portsmouth are closing in an a deal for Aston Villa youngster Andre Green according to reports, a move that is likely to cause surprise across the EFL.

20-year old Green has been tipped as a star of the future and appeared to be close to breaking through at Aston Villa. Instead, Steve Bruce believes first team football is the order of the day and looks set to send him out to Kenny Jackett's Portsmouth on a short-term loan.

Bruce explained his decision to Birmingham Live, saying; ""I've decided to let him go and get some games under his belt. After signing the recent (wingers) it will benefit him. I hope he goes and becomes a big success. We will then see how he is in January."

It will still come as a shock to Villa fans who have been keen to see the latest talent emerge from the academy and make a mark on the first team. From a Portsmouth perspective, the move is sensational with them bagging one of the most exciting young players currently in the second-tier.

Our panel of Football league experts discuss the potential move, asking if it is the right decision by Aston Villa.

George Dagless

What a top signing for Pompey.

Green is a Championship player and I expect him to tear up League One this season once he gets going.

With Jamal Lowe and Ronan Curtis also in the side Portsmouth have a very good attack.

Louie Chandler

I think so.

Villa do not have a shortage of quality wingers at the club and it is better for Green to be playing regular football.

I am slightly surprised they did not try harder to get him a Championship move, however

Gary Hutchinson

If i'm honest, i'm shocked by this.

Green is an excellent prospect who could be on the fringes of the first team at Villa.

Loaning him out seems like a crazy decision, I know they're not in the League Cup anymore so chances might be hard to come by, but to cast him aside like this is unreal.

I thought he would break through this season, but I guess recent signings has made him surplus to requirements, for now.
