In-demand Sunderland striker Josh Maja surprised most on-lookers by making a move to French side Bordeaux in the January transfer window, having turned down the new contract offered by the Black Cats.

The 20-year-old was Sunderland's top scorer so far this season with 16 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions, but was not included in the match-day squad for the first fixture he was available for in Bordeaux, a 1-0 defeat to Marseille.

So could Maja be regretting walking away from Sunderland?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

“It’ way too early to be formulating a notion that he could be regretting his move.

“Maja’s Bordeaux career is still in its infancy so time will need to be afforded to him.

“He should be judged at the end of the season, or even next season to determine if it was the right move.

“But it’s a chance in setting and circumstance so he isn’t exactly going to adapt instantaneously, add to the mix the age of the boy, too.

“He needs time.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Depends how much he likes rich cheese and nice wine!

“Seriously though, it’s all about game time.

“If he plays over there, I think he’ll be a success and not look back.

“If he’s on the bench, it’s a problem.”

Jacob Potter

"I think he’s already regretting it.

"I still have no idea why he chose to move to Bordeaux in the first place, and the fact that he didn’t make the starting XI in what could have been his first game, speaks volumes.

"He won’t be a regular there like he was at Sunderland, and could live to regret moving to France."
