Garry Monk will be anticipating a busy summer at St. Andrew's as he looks to build a Birmingham City squad that can compete for a play-off place.

The former Leeds boss did a fine job in keeping Blues up, transforming the atmosphere at the club and getting the side playing more attacking football than they had done under Steve Cotterill.

Yet, there's no doubt that Blues lack quality and new faces will need to come to the club.

However, with the financial situation as it is at Birmingham, the reality is that players will have to leave to balance the books for any arrivals.

Here we look at some potential outgoings and incomings that would please Blues fans...

A deal for the left-back appears to be close and it would be a good signing for Monk in a problem position. They don't have cover behind Jonathan Grounds, who missed the last part of the campaign.

Pedersen would provide competition in that area and will give Blues balance down the left hand side.

This is an ambitious move but would be the sort of statement signing that Blues need to make.

Monk's men lack a natural goalscorer but Marriott would change that. There's a lot of competition for his signature but he would seriously improve the Birmingham XI.

There was a lot of expectancy around Roberts when he joined for £3.5m from Barnsley last summer but he failed to deliver.

He couldn't get in the team towards the end of the season under Monk and Blues would be better trying to cash in on him.

They wouldn't get near what they paid for him back but it could go towards financing a move for someone like Marriott.
