Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that midfielder Kieran Lee has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with the club.
The 31-year-old’s previous contract expired on June 30th, but he has since enjoyed a successful pre-season with the Owls and will be available when the club kick off their Championship season next week.
Lee has been hampered by injuries of late which has seen him make just 17 appearances in the last two seasons, but he returned to Wednesday’s starting line-up at the end of last term and is now set to play a more prominent role in the 2019/20 season.
The midfielder has scored 22 goals in 186 appearances during his seven seasons with the Owls, and he will now compete with the likes of Barry Bannan, Sam Hutchinson and Joey Pelupessy for a starting spot next season.
Wednesday confirmed news of Lee’s fresh deal via their Twitter account on Friday morning:

Plenty of Owls supporters responded to the announcement with much positivity, and many of them also expressed their delight at seeing Lee on the mend following his injury troubles.
Here are some of their reactions…

If fit, first name on the team sheet. What a player he could have been if it wasn’t for injuries. Great (re)signing
