The 2017/18 campaign has been a difficult one for Sheffield Wednesday, who have finished mid-table under Jos Luhukay.

Many were expecting another play-off push at Hillsborough ahead of the season, but Wednesday haven’t delivered and finished 15th.

Injuries have hindered the Owls throughout the season, but the return of some key men brought an upturn in results towards the end of the campaign and some positivity heading into the summer.

The coming summer offers Luhukay an opportunity to tinker with the squad he inherited from Carlos Carvalhal and get Wednesday challenging back up the table.

Changes in personnel will be expected at Hillsborough after a frustrating year, particularly with Luhukay embarking on his first summer transfer window.

It won’t take much to get Wednesday back challenging for promotion, with Dejphon Chansiri, the club’s owner, knowing only a couple of key additions will improve a fully fit squad.

With that in mind, here is a look at THREE signings that Chansiri and Luhukay should be looking to pull off…

Batth has just captained Wolves to promotion, but it isn’t clear if the central defender will be in Nuno Santo’s Premier League plans.

Having featured in a three-man defence at Molineux under Nuno, Batth would fit perfectly into the system Luhukay has adopted at Hillsborough.

Batth would slot into Wednesday's 3-5-2 system with ease and bring some experience to a defensive unit that has struggled on occasion.

Venancio has improved so much at Hillsborough during his season-long loan and next year could be a big year for the centre-back.

Towards the end of the season the 25-year-old was magnificent and he could be a huge player for Luhukay and Wednesday, should they move to sign him permanently.

Wednesday’s forwards haven’t delivered this season, and Luhukay could be looking to sign another striker to take into next season, particularly if he can offload a couple.

Marriott has scored over 30 goals for Peterborough in League One this season, proving to be one of the most lethal forwards in the lower leagues.

A Championship chance will come, and Wednesday should be amongst those looking to sign the 23-year-old in the summer.
