Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has reflected upon his side’s transfer window via The Bristol Post, a window which saw the Robins bring in nine new signings.

The Ashton Gate tenants finished 17th in the Championship last term but just three points clear of the bottom three, and with star striker Tammy Abraham not returning to the club after a hugely successful loan spell, boss Johnson would have known that reinforcements were vital during the close season to again beat the drop.

And the Robins broke their transfer record to land forward Famara Diedhiou for £5.3 million, with the likes of Nathan Baker and Niclas Eliasson also making permanent moves to the club, while the duo of Cauley Woodrow and Jonathan Leko made loan moves to the South West outfit.

And with just three players making permanent moves away from the club over the summer, which excludes in-demand Aden Flint, manager Johnson has reflected upon the window with much positivity.

He said: ‘If Carlsberg did [transfer] windows it would be the perfect window.

‘I thought it was an excellent one - not only with the players that we brought in but, from a selfish point of view as a head coach, to keep players that were being heavily circled by clubs in this division but also in the division above.’

These comments are sure to intrigue Bristol City supporters, who would have seen their side tipped by many to be in a relegation battle this term, yet have begun the campaign with just one defeat from their opening five matches, albeit they have also only won once in that time.

And Leko, as well as the deadline day additions of Luke Steele, Tyreeq Bakinson, Rory Holden, will all be hoping to make their Robins debuts when they return to league action against Reading on Saturday.

The Verdict: Many feared for Bristol City at the start of the summer, what with star striker Tammy Abraham, who scored 23 goals last term, not set to return to the club for the 2017/18 Championship season.

And the departure of Lee Tomlin further increased the concern among many round the country, although manager Lee Johnson appears very satisfied with his side’s window, which saw nine players arrive at Ashton Gate, and the likes of Aden Flint remain at the club despite reported interest.

And with just one defeat from their opening five games, things appear to be heading in the right direction at Bristol City ahead of what could turn out to be a very successful season indeed for Johnson’s men.
