After a poor first few months in charge of Nottingham Forest, Aitor Karanka will know that he needs to make major changes to his squad if they are to compete for promotion.

The former Boro boss took over in January and despite several additions in his first window, the Reds had a frustrating, inconsistent end to the campaign.

However, the fans understandably have a lot of faith in Karanka who has won promotion from the Championship before with Middlesbrough.

Therefore, he knows what needs to be done and will actively be looking to bring in quality players to the City Ground.

Here are two potential incomings and outgoings that fans will want to see in the coming months...

Forest have been linked with an ambitious move for Benfica attacking midfielder who would add real creativity to a side that struggled to score last season.

The youngster has great technique and an eye for a pass that would give this side a different dimension in the final third.

As mentioned, Forest had real problems in front of goal last season, with the side lacking a natural finisher.

That would change if Marriott arrived, with the Peterborough striker one of the most in-demand players in the EFL after hitting 27 goals in League One last season.

The Greek striker has failed to get many chances in the past 12 months but even when he was given an opportunity, he didn't take it.

With new forwards sure to come in, Vellios will have even less game time and the Reds are better moving him on.

Similarly, Mancienne has struggled last season and Forest have already brought in Michael Dawson and still need further additions in defence.

Again, that will push Mancienne away from the team and they should look to sell.
