According to the Mirror, Fernando Forestieri could leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer as they look to trim things down financially.
The Owls had a below-par 2017/18 and could now be forced into letting some of their bigger earners go as they aim to keep the books balanced as well as still going for promotion next season.
In our latest Domino Effect Deals feature, then, we’re wondering whether Forestieri’s potential exit could pave the way for Jack Marriott to arrive:
Forestieri is valued at £6.3m by transfermarkt but it’s not hard to envisage that he’d bring in a bigger fee than that if the Owls do sell up.
Marriott, meanwhile, has a £5m price-tag on his head and would surely ask for lower wages than the Steel City side’s marquee name.
Of course, the Owls might not decide to reinvest all the money they made from Forestieri into playing staff as they look to shore things up but, at the same time, completely neglecting it would also be a mistake.
In Marriott, then, they’d be getting a player on the rise, confident in front of goal and likely at a net profit overall.
He’s not on a par with Forestieri yet, but there’s no reason to suggest why he wouldn’t end up being a similar level hit.
