Leeds United suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss against Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon as Nahki Wells’ early strike condemned the Whites to back-to-back league defeats.
Wells opened the scoring with a controversial effort in the 20th minute after the striker handled the ball in the direct build-up for the goal, and Leeds failed to ever muster a response with striker Patrick Bamford missing a second-half penalty for his side.
Leeds were dealt a further blow late on in the match when key midfielder Kalvin Phillips was shown the red card for a dangerous challenge on Geoff Cameron, with the 24-year-old now facing a three-game ban following this reckless moment.
This means Phillips is likely to miss Leeds’ next three matches at a time where the club’s promotion hopes are looking in doubt, with the Elland Road outfit now just four points clear of third-placed Fulham.

Plenty of Leeds supporters took to Twitter to slam Phillips for his decision to commit the dangerous lunge, while others suggested the midfielder’s tackle sums up the mood at the club at the moment following this third straight defeat.
Here are some of the reactions…
I’d be making the exact same challenge in Phillips situation. Obviously raging inside that we were losing and how the game was going. Sometimes the rage inside is hard to keep inside! We just can’t convert chances. It’s as simple as that #lufc

The red card to Phillips should also change the transfer policy of this window. Forshaw isn't going to back any time soon either; they need another body in midfield before Millwall.
Striker, winger, midfielder and a miracle please. #lufc

I get that Phillips might have been frustrated but that challenge was terrible and idiotic, will now miss 3 games including an integral one at Brentford, should have used his brain #lufc

The Phillips red card tells you everything you need to know about the squad mentally. Fragile as anything after last season and worried. If you think the issue starts and ends at Bamford you’re wrong. #lufc

Feels like this might be the match we look back on at the end of the season as where we lost it. Phillips red card sums up the mood #lufc

No words for that! Yeah the ref was dire but my word it’s been the same story for weeks we don’t take chances! Need a striker in now! Phillips red card sums club up at moment just falling apart again! #LUFC

Somehow that felt like Phillips was putting in a transfer request. Knows he won't get to PL with Bamford up front. #lufc
