Derby County will be looking to kick-start their 2019/20 campaign on Saturday when they head to Elland Road to face Leeds United in the Championship.

Despite getting off to the perfect start as Rams manager by securing a 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town last month, Phillip Cocu has since struggled to make a positive impact at Pride Park.

With the Rams currently on a run of six games without a win in all competitions, the Dutchman desperately needs his players to deliver an encouraging performance this weekend.

Considering that Derby were incredibly underwhelming during their most recent outing against Cardiff City, they will need to be on top-form to have any chance of stopping Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds.

Currently top of the Championship standings, the Whites will be brimming with confidence heading into this particular clash following their 2-0 victory over Barnsley last Sunday.

Whilst Derby will be under no illusion about how difficult this clash will be, they could benefit from targeting these two potential chinks in Leeds' armour...

The Whites are vulnerable to the counter-attack

With Leeds almost certain to dominate possession at the weekend, Derby should look to try and exploit Bielsa's side's vulnerability to the counter-attack.

Although they eventually emerged unscathed against Barnsley, they gave up a host of chances in their search to find a winner and but for Kiko Casilla, they could have dropped points at Oakwell.

Whilst Tom Lawrence is set to miss out on the clash due to suspension (via the Derby Telegraph), Cocu could turn to Jack Marriott and Martyn Waghorn for inspiration on Saturday.

Bielsa's side may still be scarred by last season's play-off meeting

In what was arguably the most dramatic game in the Championship last season, Derby's victory 4-2 over Leeds in the play-offs left their opponents in utter disbelief at Elland Road.

Although this latest meeting between the two sides holds less weight than this aforementioned clash, the Rams could stir up old memories if they decide to adopt a positive approach.

By taking the game to the Whites, Derby could force Bielsa's side to crack once again under pressure and thus secure a result that their travelling supporters will be proud of.
