According to Football Insider, Sunderland are leading the chase to re-sign former striker Mikael Mandron.

The 25-year-old faces an uncertain future at current club Gillingham, and is set to become a free agent with his contract at Priestfield expiring at the end of next month.

The French forward has scored six goals in all competitions this season, with five of those goals coming in 23 appearances in League One.

Which manager signed each of these 15 Sunderland players?

Now, it is claimed that Sunderland are interested in signing Mandron on a free transfer - a player some fans may know well after he came through the ranks at the North East club.

Mandron made three senior appearances during his time with the Black Cats, going out on loan to the likes of Hartlepool, Fleetwood and Shrewsbury, before sealing a permanent move to Eastleigh in 2016.

Charlie Wyke is Sunderland's highest-goalscoring striker with six goals to his name this term, but whether Mandron is the man to add more firepower to Phil Parkinson's attacking line is another question.

Members of the Sunderland AFC Fans Group on Facebook have had their say on the speculation...

Lee Farrell New: Would be good signing, better than Wyke

Lee Jones: We’ll need players in and have no money

Rob Day: At this level yes.

Steve Smith: I think free signings is all we have to look forward to until the club is sold

Gerard Russell Pyle: I would have him he scores goals at this level and was outstanding when we played them scoring 2

Ollie Humpherson: I’d take him back

Paul Smith: At least he knows where the net is unlike Wyke and Grigg
