Middlesbrough could make a managerial appointment later this week, the Daily Star report that Chairman Steve Gibson is ready to announce it.

Jonathan Woodgate and Slavisa Jokanovic are among the frontrunners, leading many 'Boro fans to head to Twitter in anticipation that it could be their former defender who takes over.

The 39-year-old Woodgate is currently first team coach at Middlesbrough and he could be ready for the step-up, prompting excitement amongst the fanbase.

He made 46 appearances in his time at the Riverside from 2006-2008, and could be a good fit since he has worked with the squad for two years.

However, there has been a mixed reaction to the news that Woodgate could soon be the man in the dugout, possibly due to many preferring Jokanovic - a manager who has two promotions from the Championship.
