Young Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke was a target of Aston Villa in the summer, as manager Steve Bruce planned for a return to the Premier League as reported in The London Evening Standard.

Having had his hands tied in the transfer market until the new owners took over at Villa, Bruce was one of a few managers to try and land the 20-year-old on loan.

But would Solanke have fitted in at Villa?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

I believe he would have.

But that probably would have meant that Tammy Abraham wouldn’t have joined so it is all conjecture at this point.

He plays frequently enough for Liverpool so this would have been a big coup by Steve Bruce to pull off this signing.

Gary Hutchinson

Yeah, of course he would.

I like Solanke, he’s young, ambitious and talented.

I’m not surprised he didn’t get a Championship move though, he’s surely one expected to break through into the top flight very soon.

George Harbey

It’s clear that Solanke is going to be a real talent in the future, but would a move to Villa have suited him? It’s tough to say.

What I will say however is that I'd rather have Tammy Abraham, than Solanke at the moment - he has already proved himself to be a clinical striker in this division and is much less of a risk than Solanke is.
