As the January transfer starts to heat up it's inevitable that the rumour mill starts going into overdrive.

Clubs are desperate to do business this month and that means that clubs are linked with a plethora of playing talent as they look to get deals done.

Sunderland are one team who are keen to sign strikers, and a new development as really got fans talking.

Cardiff City have confirmed that Gary Madine has left the club by mutual consent.

The 29-year-old previously played under Phil Parkinson during his time with Bolton Wanderers before heading to South Wales in 2018.

Madine is from the North East originally and started his career in the youth set up with Carlisle United.

Since then he's also played for Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton and the likes of Blackpool and Coventry City on loan.

His links to the region - as well as his history with Phil Parkinson - have led some Sunderland fans to put two and two together with regards to a potential reunion for the pair at the Stadium Of Light.

Here's what supporters have had to say.
