Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will be looking to strengthen his first team squad this summer, having found his side stretched to the limit as they fell narrowly short of promotion in the play-offs last season.

But it is not only new recruits that Bielsa will be considering, with a wealth of talent within his all conquering under-23 side.

One man who Bielsa will need to consider ahead of next season is attacking midfielder Mateusz Bogusz who joined from Ruch Chorzów in January 2019 on a two-and-a-half year deal.

The Polish midfielder has looked impressive for the under-23 side, and could be handed an opportunity in the first-team next season.

So should Bielsa be looking at keeping Bogusz in the squad for next season? Or should he be loaned out?

We discuss........

Toby Wilding

"I would be giving him the chance to prove himself initially.

"There are a number of players at Elland Road who are currently looking at being moved on from the club having never really been given the chance to prove themselves at first team level.

"It would therefore make sense to keep Bogusz around the squad for him to show what he can do, rather than sending him out somewhere else and allow another player to take his place, leaving him out in the could before he has even really started at the club, something which would feel like a waste of both time and resources."

Kealan Hughes

"Like many fringe players at Leeds he will probably be on his way out of the door either on loan or permanently.

"He is still very young and is not the type of player Leeds need if they are to mount another promotion challenge, despite the qualities he has.

"It is important Leeds send him somewhere where he will play regularly, there is nothing more important for his development and if he impresses then Bielsa can start thinking of him as a possibility to feature in the first team."

Gary Hutchinson

“I’d definitely keep him.

“Okay, Under 23 football isn’t as competitive as it maybe could be, but he’s a young talent who could get first team action.

“EFL Cup matches and early FA Cup matches would give him some exposure. That could see him accelerate his progress and force a place on the bench.

“If, by the middle of Jan, he’s not in that set up then give him six months in League One.”

Louie Chandler

"I would be tempted to keep him.

"Leeds are not spoilt for choice in terms of central midfielders and Bogusz was excellent in the under-23 side last season.

"Bielsa has also shown just how good he is at bringing through young talent at Elland Road as well so keeping him could allow the club to strengthen in areas of greater priority this summer."
