Sheffield United are keeping tabs on Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton, according to HITC.

The former Huddersfield Town star has struggled to get himself into Boro's starting elevens recently, and this has seemingly alerted Chris Wilder, who is looking to replace the void left by Paul Coutts.

Would Clayton be a good signing for the Blades?

This could be the signing that saves the Blades' promotion hopes.

Since Paul Coutts was ruled out for the season, Wilder's side have been poor, and Clayton is the perfect replacement at Bramall Lane.

It is a travesty the player isn't getting more game time at Boro, but he could make a real difference should Tony Pulis not include him in his plans.

I'd be really impressed if the Blades pulled this off.

They need another central midfielder and Clayton would be the kind of person to fill in for Paul Coutts for sure.

Surely Middlesbrough won't let him go, though, especially now Pulis is in charge?

Alfie Burns

Clayton would be ideal for Sheffield United, and Wilder will be pushing hard for this deal to happen.

However, I can see Tony Pulis taking a shine to Clayton and reintroducing the midfielder at the Riverside Stadium.

It has been a surprise to see Clayton used so sparingly, but things could be about to change.

Frustrating for Sheffield United.
