Middlesbrough man Duncan Watmore has made quite the start to his career at the Riverside Stadium.

The 26-year-old bagged a brace in last night’s win over Swansea City and also has an assist in his three appearances under Neil Warnock.

However, he only signed a short-term deal at the Riverside Stadium and Boro now face a decision on whether to extend that after this electric start.

Our writers discuss whether the Teessiders should…

There's no doubt that the club will look to extend his deal.

Duncan Watmore was brought in as a risk-free option and was offered a contract after proving his desire and fitness in training.

Since becoming a first team player he hasn't looked back.

As well as scoring two goals and creating one in his two starts so far, Warnock has gone on the record to praise Watmore's character for what he brings to the group.

Providing that he stays fit I'd be massively surprised if he didn't earn a new deal as he's already shown that he could be a key player between now and the end of the season.

Ned Holmes

Definitely.

Depth is not something that Boro have particularly much of when it comes to dynamic attacking players, so if Warnock is getting a tune out of Watmore then he'll want to keep him around.

The former Sunderland man has always had the talent but injuries meant things just didn't work out at the Stadium of Light, though a fresh start with their local rivals seems to have done him the world of good.

As long as his first performance wasn't a false dawn, you feel Watmore should be sticking around at Boro.

Quiz: Which club did Middlesbrough sign each of these 25 players from?

Jake Sanders

If Watmore keeps performing like he did against Swansea, then I can definitely see Boro offering him a longer deal.

Middlesbrough and Neil Warnock sides generally struggle for goals, and with Britt Assombalonga not exactly firing on all cylinders, having another goalscorer in their ranks is something they won't turn their noses up at.

Watmore's quality has never been questioned, it's more his ability to remain fit, so if he stays injury-free then his future might just end up being at the Riverside.
