According to reports from Football Insider, Middlesbrough are interested in signing Alan Hutton on a free transfer, with only a week to go until the transfer window slams shut.

The 34-year-old was an important player for Aston Villa last season, making 34 appearances and helping Dean Smith's side win promotion to the Premier League via the Sky Bet Championship play-offs.

But upon the expiry of his contract at Villa Park, the Scottish international was let go by the Villans, and is still on the lookout for a new club with only one day to go until the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

Rangers and a host of English sides are understood to be keen on Hutton, but it now looks as if the right-back could be on his way to Middlesbrough, with the club reportedly entering talks with the free agent.

Jonathan Woodgate's side are lacking depth at right-back, with natural midfielder Jonny Howson looking likely to start the season in that position, ahead of their opening day clash with Luton Town on Friday.
