Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk has really got his side firing, up to fifth in the Championship on a run of four unbeaten, ahead of the weekend trip to Blackburn Rovers.

One player though who does not seem to be in Monk's plans moving forward is striker Jordan Rhodes, who has managed only five appearances in all competitions so far this season.

So should the Owls keep, sell or loan out Jordan Rhodes in January as the transfer window edges closer?

We discuss.........

Ben Lang

"Wednesday should definitely be looking to offload the striker, but they will do very well to find a buyer given his lack of Championship minutes this term.

"The Owls need to bring in another striker in January, but they must get rid of Rhodes in order to do so, and this could hold them given that not many clubs will likely be willing to meet his wages.

"There is perhaps an argument to keeping Rhodes at the club and trying to bed him into the side, but he has simply not delivered in a Wednesday shirt so far, and Monk probably feels he is fighting a losing battle by starting him now.

"Therefore, all Wednesday's effort should be put into finding a suitor for Rhodes as there does not appear to be any route back for him at the club."

Jordan Rushworth

“Rhodes would have been hopeful that when Garry Monk took over at Hillsborough as the permanent successor to Steve Bruce he would have the opportunity to fight for his chance to get back into the Owls’ starting line-up, after finding his minutes limited in recent times at Sheffield Wednesday.

“However, Monk has elected to give minutes to Steven Fletcher, Sam Winnall, Fernando Forestieri and Atdhe Nuhiu instead of Rhodes since his arrival at the club, with Fletcher in particular rewarding that faith with some strong performances to establish himself as the club’s main choice up front in the last few months.

“That means that Rhodes is down the pecking order at Sheffield Wednesday and he would therefore probably be better off looking to move on during the January transfer window, with a loan deal probably the best option considering other clubs might not be wanting to pay the striker’s wages in January.

“Sheffield Wednesday would probably prefer a permanent transfer for the striker, but if the right loan offer did come in for him then it would certainly be something which the club should consider, with a move away probably the best outcome for both parties.”

George Harbey

"If I was Garry Monk, I'd be cutting my losses and just be getting rid of Rhodes in all honesty.

"He's had his chances to impress at Hillsborough since arriving from Middlesbrough - perhaps too many chances - but he's failed to take them and he hasn't made an impact whatsoever.

"They tried loaning him out last season, which looked positive at first after scoring a fair few goals for Norwich City, but if anything, that's made his Wednesday career go even more downhill because he demands regular game-time.

"They have so many quality attacking options in the final third who are all higher up in the pecking order, and I'd be getting rid of Rhodes as he's likely to be on big, big wages too."
